Collaborative editing & edit proposals
BetaShared editing sessions on a document, and a propose-review-merge flow for changes to it.
- ✓Shared editing sessions with a list of currently active users
- ✓Edit proposals — propose, approve and merge, reject with a comment, or withdraw
- ✓Append-only edit history of what was proposed and what was decided
- ✓Redline templates have their own collaborative editing surface
What it is.
Two people working on the same draft share an editing session that syncs the document state and records who is currently in it. Alongside that sits the part worth having: an edit proposal is a change one person suggests and another approves, rejects, or the author withdraws — a pull request over a contract clause, with an append-only history of what was proposed and what happened to it.
Be clear about what is not here. There are no comment threads on a clause, no @mentions, and no live cursors showing where a colleague is typing. Notifications exist as a system and are used elsewhere in the product, but nothing routes a collaboration event into them.
Three steps.
End to end.
The session syncs the document and records the users currently active in it.
Rather than editing over someone, propose the change with a note on why.
A reviewer approves and it merges, or rejects with a comment. Either way the decision is on the record.
What you get.
- ✓Shared editing sessions with a list of currently active users
- ✓Edit proposals — propose, approve and merge, reject with a comment, or withdraw
- ✓Append-only edit history of what was proposed and what was decided
- ✓Redline templates have their own collaborative editing surface
- ✓Comment threads, with replies, on each redline suggestion
Quick answers.
Not on the document itself, and there are no @mentions. A redline suggestion has its own comment thread with replies, and an edit proposal carries a note — the reason attached to a specific proposed change.
No. A session lists who is active; it does not stream cursor positions or selections.
